PCC has just come out with a new release of PCC EHR, Version 1.6.1, which includes new e-prescribing tool, PCC eRx, powered by DrFirst. EHR Project Manager Bill VanDeventer said of the partnering decision, "We researched many third party e-prescribing companies and chose DrFirst because of their leadership in the industry and because they provided us the ability to integrate their service tightly into PCC EHR. We wanted to ensure that our customers could access and use the prescription module without any disruption to the flow of the medical visit." Additionally, DrFirst is a Surescripts certified product.
Building the interface and integrating PCC eRx was a big job for our Design and Development teams, taking several months to design, develop, and implement. Because DrFirst is a web-based e-prescribing tool, our Design Team's objective was to make the interface has a consistent look and feel of PCC EHR, so that users did not feel they were being taken out of the software, said Design Team member Michael Stein.
The other main objective, said Stein, was to create seamless communication between DrFirst and PCC EHR resulting in the bi-directional exchange of information. "If a provider prescribes medications in PCC eRx, they are displayed in PCC EHR." Problems added to a patient's Problem List will be sent to PCC eRx, and allergies that are managed within PCC eRx show up in PCC EHR, he added.
The first few offices begin using PCC eRx this week, including The Children's Clinic of Nashville (TCCN), the latest early adopter of PCC EHR to go live. As we continue rolling out PCC eRx to clients currently using PCC EHR and we receive feedback on the latest release, PCC is looking forward to responding to feedback as part of our release early, release often agile development process.
