We are excited to announce that PCC EHR is up and running in its first pediatric practice! The Pediatric Center of Stone Mountain, Georgia went live with PCC EHR on March 9 and has been using it in their office for the past several weeks. This practice agreed to be an early adopter of PCC EHR and we were able to install the software pre-release due to their practice-specific needs. The Pediatric Center will first use PCC EHR in their Behavioral Health Office for primarily charting patients with ADHD. Because of this, the office does not need all the features that will be included in the first release of PCC EHR right away. Implementing PCC EHR first in the Behavioral Health Office also allows the practice to adjust to PCC EHR at a gradual pace.
PCC EHR is currently being used primarily by the two counselors in the Behavioral Health Office to chart counseling visits, track prescription refills, and conduct re-check appointments. Two of the practice's providers also use the EHR to sign off on medications and charts. PCC EHR is installed on four computers in the practice, including two PC's, a laptop, and a tablet. In preparing for PCC EHR, Practice Administrator Ally Chadwick, said PCC did much of the work in preparing their office for the transition.
PCC's New Client Coordinator, Lisa Legge worked closely with the practice and conducted training with the primary users of PCC EHR. Chadwick said the only hesitancy was in setting clear parameters for the initial usage of PCC EHR in the office. Once they determined the EHR would only be used for this specific set of patients and visits at first, the staff was confident in going live with PCC EHR.
"PCC helped us through the process, and we've made the transition with little to no problems," she said. "The response time has been amazing. We know anything that can be addressed right then will be."
One thing the practice had to do in preparation for the installation was to make sure they had all the proper hardware in place. They chose to purchase two new computer systems through PCC. The new equipment ensured that the computers were up-to date and would allow PCC to trouble-shoot easily, said Chadwick.
She described the transition so far as very smooth. "It's never an easy task in getting people to make changes, but I'm very pleased with the transition. Now we can track refills and medications with the click of a button - and we don't have to read the physicians' handwriting."
The Pediatric Center's ability to implement PCC EHR in one specific area of their practice allows us to get PCC EHR up and running in a live office situation and allows the practice to get used to using the EHR in their workflow gradually. The practice plans to implement PCC EHR fully into their office when PCC EHR Version 1.1 is complete and ready for release. "We're ready to go and excited," said Chadwick. "Software doesn't scare me," she said, "I don't feel like there's anything you can do on a computer that someone who knows what they're doing can't fix."
As for their decision in choosing PCC EHR, Chadwick said, "The customer service and rapport we have built with PCC throughout the years made it a done deal before PCC even announced they would build their own EHR. With PCC, there is so much honesty and trust, and they are so willing to personalize the experience-it's worth its weight in gold."
