Why I posted to the list: re: help with unwanted messages.

Greetings,

The benefit and purpose of an email list, in my
opinion, are the ability to reach a large number of
people with one click of the mouse button. This
translates into increasing your chances that someone
will read your message and be able to help you or to
share information.

Since I needed help pertaining to the messages coming
from THIS email list, I posted my message HERE. I
also suspected that others may be experiencing the
same problem I am, which proved to be the case.

With respect to the debate as to whether or not
participants should post to the list, having to
soul-search before posting stifles communication and
the likelihood that people will share information that
may be of interest and/or help to SOME of the other
participants, though perhaps not all. Of course, no
one has ever claimed that in order to post your
message, it must interest, impact or affect EVERYONE
on the list. If people fear being lambasted and
attacked for posting, they will stop contributing.
This, I believe, is the greater evil.

On the other hand, I understand that no one wants to
have their email box flooded - which is the whole
reason why I posted in the first place.
