"Jane, you ignorant slut" or "Chip Takes a Holiday"

This breast feeding discussion is great. Off with the gloves! I have culled
the past two weeks and selected some of my favorite hyperbolic rhetoric,
complete with mouth-frothing majuscular emphasis:

"...the more fanatic .. moms "
"To some moms, breastfeeding is more important than a healthy baby."
"PROVE IT! I think we'd all like to see documentation"
"I'm appalled you would make such a statement"
"Another pathetic statement which demonstrates your complete lack of
understanding"
"You've obviously never breastfed"
"...now I am confused..."
"... ABSURD!"
"Entire generations of third world children are dying and this attitude does
not help the issue!" (My personal favorite)
"you try to say something I didn't say."
"Well, actually, since IBCLCs probably know more about safe formula feeding
than most other members of the health care team"
"how to feed formula safely since it is a DEAD substance ..."
"What makes you think that I'd be an agent for Nestlé?
"breastfeeding fanaticism"
"possible hidden agendas"
"THAT is probably the single most nonsensical statement... "

AND OF COURSE -----> "be reasonable"

ENOUGH (or "Chip Takes a Holiday")

Message from Chip Hart chip@.missing-host-name.

First, I have not taken a holiday. As many of you know, we at
PCC don't even get to sleep.

Second, one of the reasons this list has remained fresh and
successful after so many years and millions of bytes is that I
try not to interfere too much.

Third, having witnessed such "events" in the past, I have come
to realize that they either go sour or turn into something
constructive. Without suggestion an appreciation for one
"side" of this debate over another, I think we might turn it
into something constructive. Then again, maybe not.

Fourth, as Dr. Chamblis has pointed out with comments like:

> "Another pathetic statement which demonstrates your complete lack of
> understanding"
> "Entire generations of third world children are dying and this attitude does=
> not help the issue!" (My personal favorite)
> "What makes you think that I'd be an agent for Nestle?
> "breastfeeding fanaticism"
> "possible hidden agendas"
> "THAT is probably the single most nonsensical statement... "

...we certainly HAVE crossed over the line of appropriate PedTalk
discussion.

So, let me make something clear: I have received complaints
about and have identified numerous inappropriate comments from
BOTH SIDES OF THIS DEBATE. I expect the discussion to avoid
even the semblance of antagonism (hint: an email message full of
question marks, implying sarcasm, is antagonistic). Anyone, and
I mean ANYONE, who can't behave will be dropped. I'll be
watching and reading carefully and anyone who keeps up the bad
work after the various mail queues have kicked out will not even
get a warning.

Comments, questions welcome.
