4th Dose of HIB

Hi,

Our Sanofi rep came by yesterday to reinforce the new CDC recommendation
that 4th doses of HIB be suspended until Merck resumes production or
Sanofi can rev theirs up.

When do you think would be the best time to catch them all up, instead
of relying on a haphazard "whenever they are here for something else"?

4th Dose of HIB

I don't think we can answer that question until the CDC releases a new recommendation which reinstates the booster dose. Once it does, the Catchup schedule will be in effect for these kids, and it states that the final dose would be given at any time after (a) 12 months of age; and (b) 8 weeks following the 3rd dose (2nd if all PRP-OMP); and (c) only if the child is under 5 years old.

I am not going to chase these kids down, but will do as I always do and check their imms at every visit and give them what they are due.

4th Dose of HIB

I agree. We will not keep lists and do callbacks. We will catch them up when they come in for any reason as long as it is not contraindicated.

RE: 4th Dose of HIB

The children at high risk of Hib infection should be given their booster dose
on time per the recommendations.

The CDC also said that children at higher risk for Hib infection should get
priority over other patients. How do you all track this?

RE: 4th Dose of HIB

Catch up???
We just got our first shipment of Hib since mid-December or whenever the
recall went into effect (and we had to mail back all of our stock). NC had the
misfortune of picking the wrong supplier for their sole supplier. So we have
lots of patients who have not had ANY. We are trying to get everyone two
dosages before we give three...
